alternative to Merging cells in Smartsheet

I know merging cells is not possible in Smartsheet, but is there any other way to achieve this?

what if I do not have fixed values and I want the user to type in the value

let's say I want the user to enter the sales quarterly as follows:

the sales will change and I can not use a multi-select dropdown.

Is it possible?

As an alternative. what I would suggest doing is use individual rows with the Item duplicated in each row. Then if you're on a Business or Enterprise plan, you can use a Report toGroupby the Item column to have a header-row automatically created.
