Enhancement Request - Lock User Entries Available on DropDown Control

1. A toggle control on the dropdown that prohibits the user from just typing any old thing in there....ruins the integrity of my data. Toggle on locks it, toggle off means user can either select from the drop down or type their own entry.

Comments

  • +1 on both counts!

#1 is especially important since Smartsheet doesn't have any data validation (as far as I can tell).

I know they are working on #1.

    Definitely has my vote.

    #2 may break data validation.

    If my drop down is

    One

    Two

    Three

and I can multi-select One and Two

    then the results

    either

    One Two

    or

    One

    Two

won't match the drop down - remember, the computer has to check that - either after any change, once, or periodically. The first and third take time - time taken away from doing the other things so everything slows down ... just a little but it all adds up.

Not saying it can't be done, just offering (hopefully valid) reasons why it may not be done soon or at all.

Our Development team is currently working on data validation but this is still in early stages, so I'm not sure if there will be a way to enable or disable it per sheet, or per column (some of the questions that our Development team has to face when creating this functionality).

I've got your votes down for this so our team can better understand your process when developing this.
