Excluding indented rows from being auto-numbered

I am using a web form for users to intitate developent requests and have set up column to auto-number each job request (P0001, P0002 etc.). The shop supervisor then adds rows below each job request to assign tasks to different team members and indents these under the main job request.

Smartsheet assigns each indented row the next auto number (P0003, P0004 etc.). Is there a way to stop the indented rows being numbered this way? We would like to restrict autonumbering only to job requests received through the web-form and not for tasks created to complete the jobs.

what about using the next column ovr for tasks? then it wouldnt follow the auto numbering that your other column does. Also if you have typical tasks you could have a few differnet task sets saved as templates at the top of the sheets that would make things more scalable ......unless of course these are all one off random development or repair type items.

Hello Tariq! The auto-numbering column will add a value to each row in your sheet. There is not a way to designate adding the number to certain rows (such as non parent rows).

You could add a Checkbox column that idenifies a parent row, then add Text/Number column which displays the auto-number only if the corresponding checkbox is not checked. The autonumber and Checkbox columns could be hidden, so you only see the Text/Number column with the autonumber on non parent rows (even though parent rows still have a number - its just hidden).
